Shoes For A Cure Write-Up In Happy Magazine

"In
today's callous, self-centered world, it is rare
to hear of benevolent acts. Well, in the South Bay
it's a differant story. When Vans Shoes and Spyder
Surfboards got the heartbreaking news that two local
surfer girls, Jenna Newburn and Alese Coco, were
battling a fight with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, they teamed
up to host a rather unique art show that raised
over $7,000 to aid in the girls' medical expenses.
The artshow invired LA's top artists to paint blank
slip-on shoes donated by Vans that were auctioned
off at Sangria in Hermosa Beach. Special guest artists
were Jason Cruz of Strung Out and Jenn Dabbs of
the reality show Inked. Special thanks goes out
to Ian Rees, Jay Sheldon and Richard O'Reilly for
making the night happen!"

Rider Dane Zaun Perfect Heat At 2006 NSSA National Championships!
"Although their were plenty of 9 plus waves and 10’s, 15 year old Dane Zaun from the South Bay was the one and only surfer to rise to the peak of perfection landing two perfect 10’s in his Explorer Boys quarter-final heat. He blew up on the two waves and finished them both off with a couple of the sickest 360 air reverses ever witnessed at the Nationals. Dane said, “That was the best heat of my life. I’m super stoked on the heat, especially because I get to go straight to the finals!” Dane now joins the ranks of an exclusive NSSA league. This elite perfect heat club consists of Kalani Robb, Andy Irons, Eric Diaz, Clay Marzo, Eric Geiselman and now Dane Zaun."

Press Release - 07/17/06:
“POINT BREAK’S” SURF DOCTOR SNAGS AWARD IN NATIONWIDE QUIKSILVER ENTERTAINMENT FILM FESTIVAL
A surfing mogul aims to transform Hollywood’s take on action sports culture
May 30, 2006 – Hermosa Beach, Calif. – Quiksilver Inc, leader in the action sports industry, has recognized Dennis Jarvis’s film “DONUTS!” with first place honors in this year’s Quik Film Project – a nationwide film competition sponsored by Quiksilver Entertainment. The movie, a comedic narrative examining the California beach lifestyle, is the latest of Jarvis’ award-winning body of work.
The award includes a contract for Jarvis to produce two new films for Quiksilver. The company holds annual revenue of approximately $1 billion – the largest single share of the $20 billion industry.
Jarvis, an ex-pro surfer and skateboarder, worked closely with James Cameron and Katherine Bigelow on the hit film “Point Break.” starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, and Anthony Kiedis, lead singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers whose latest album, Stadium Arcadium, placed first on Billboard magazine’s top 40 during its debut weekend. His work invigorated the film with the lifeblood of authentic surf culture. Jarvis gave surf lessons to the film’s entire cast, assisted in casting the majority of its roles and designed and built all surfboards used on-screen. Jarvis’ surf expertise helped the film become arguably the most successful surf movie of all time.
Jarvis owns an action sports retail chain based out of California that specializes in catering to a youth market that lives and breathes action sports. “Most filmmakers show surfers as half-witted beach bums living out of a VW bus. The stereotype makes people laugh, but it does nothing to foster a financially successful surf movie. I know this industry inside-and-out from three decades of working with its market, and the only way to get surfers back on the big screen is to legitimize them.”
About Spyder Entertainment
Dennis Jarvis founded Spyder Entertainment to expand his personal ventures into filmmaking. He produced “Last Days of D.P. and the T’s,” which won top honors at the South Beach film festival. Jarvis has worked on several dozen national commercials, with such companies as Miller Beer, Kellogg’s, Wishbone, Chevrolet, Adidas, Napa Auto Parts and many more. He also had a recurring role on the Emmy-award-winning show “Picket Fences.” His work on “Point Break” fostered him a production role on “CSI: Miami.” In 2004, Jarvis was recognized as a top 12 director among more than 1700 contestants in the hit show “Project Greenlight.” Spyder Entertainment plans to produce larger-budgeted films as it continues to grow, including its recently finalized concept, “Surf dogs” --- a $7.5 million family feature.

In a move to reconfigure Spyder Surfboards
product line and strategy in the market place,
Dennis Jarvis, CEO/President of Spyder Surfboards
Corp. has revoked the license contract from the
former glassing shop. Although, Dennis was involved
on all aspects of the design and quality of the
product line for the past 5 years, Jarvis, with
his partner Richard O'Reilly was growing the retail
portion of the business. "Now that our newest
store is almost completed, (the new 8000 sq foot
store at the Hermosa Pier Plaza,) I feel it is
best to reorganize our biz model and focus on
what makes us unique, quality surfboards and repositioning
our line with a new look, new designs and a new
marketing strategy, quality and performance is
still our main goal." says Jarvis. He also
tells us he will have much more foam dust on him
as he will over see every board that leaves the
new Redondo Beach, 3500 sq foot shaping / Airbrush
facility. Check out the Spyder Boards line at

The friend of the surf, friend
of Spyder Surfboards, Paul Polizzotto in Vanity
Fair

"Paul Polizzotto, a fast-talking surfing
enthusiast who grew up in Manhattan Beach, California,
has grim childhood memories of bad-air-quality
days. After the first-flush rainstorms of the
fall, he says the waves in Santa Monica Bay would
be at their gnarly height- but so would bacteria
levels, as the waters rushing down L.A. streets
carried toxic sediment and trash to the sea. Polizzotto
went into adulthood with the aim of reducing pollution
in his home bay and soon developed the Adopt-a-Waterway
program, which grew into EcoMedia, a 15-employee,
for-profit outfit now based in New York City.
Polizzotto saw that local governments don't always
have the funds to comply with environmental regulations,
and that wealthy corporations have the money and
the incentive to do something to help. His genius
has been in bringing the two sides together. With
the corporate money he drums up, he's able (a)
to produce entertaining ad campaigns tied to specific
sponsors that highlight how people can change
their polluting ways, and (b) to send money to
local governments that must comply with federal
and state mandates. B.P., Comcast, Publix Supermarkets,
and Bank of America have worked with EcoMedia,
as have the municipalities of Baltimore, Miami,
Long Beach, and, in the planning stages, Washington,
D.C., and the state of New Jersey. Here's hoping
Polizzotto can arrange many more of these unlikely-seeming
green marriages in the years to come."
